Oxford University has decided to make some changes in its 800-year-old Latin program for the benefit of non-binary students. The university has decided that neutral-gender language will be used while awarding degrees to students.

Teachers will vote in April

The decision will be voted on by university faculty on April 29, The Telegraph reports, and will be implemented across all programs from October. The changes include removing gender-defining words from Latin greetings, such as masculine and feminine words, the report said.

Instead of addressing male students as magistri (master), the word 'vos', meaning 'you', will be used. The word doctores (doctor) may also be changed. Also, the word 'who', which is both feminine and masculine, will be replaced with a neutral word.

This language will be used on many formal occasions as well

Not just events and ceremonies, gender-neutral language will also be used at many other formal occasions, such as the induction ceremony of the new Vice Chancellor.

Let us tell you, since the Labour government came to power in Britain, the pressure for neutral gender language has increased. Last month, a new guideline issued by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) asked National Health Service (NHS) staff in Britain not to call obese people "fat".
