Under the new order of the government, the sale of meat within a radius of 500 meters from religious places will be completely banned. Along with this, instructions have been issued to immediately close illegal slaughterhouses across the state.
To implement this decision of the government, special district level committees have been formed, which will include officials from police, health, transport, food safety administration and municipal corporation.
Special monitoring on Ram Navami, strict action will be taken on violations
Yogi government has ordered to impose special restrictions in the entire state on the occasion of Ram Navami on 6 April 2025. Animal slaughter and meat sale will be completely banned on this day.
The government has given strict instructions to the officials that if anyone violates this order, strict legal action will be taken against him under the UP Municipal Corporation Act 1959 and Food Safety Act 2006 and 2011.
Orders of 2014 and 2017 re-implemented
Citing orders issued in 2014 and 2017, the government clarified that illegal animal slaughter and sale of meat near religious places will be completely banned.
Under this decision, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department Amrit Abhijat has directed all District Magistrates, Police Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners to immediately close down illegal slaughterhouses.
Earlier too, Yogi government had taken strict action
Yogi Adityanath had taken major action against illegal slaughterhouses after becoming the Chief Minister in 2017. During that time, hundreds of illegal slaughterhouses were closed. This ban was considered necessary not only for religious reasons but also for the protection of health, cleanliness and environment.
In recent years, people had lodged complaints about illegal slaughterhouses operating in many parts of the state. The administration also had to face law and order problems due to these illegal activities. In view of these challenges, the government has once again taken a tough decision.
Meat will not be sold near religious places.
As per the order of Yogi government, meat sale will be completely banned within 500 meters of temples, gurudwaras, mosques and churches. The government believes that it is important to maintain cleanliness around religious places and this decision will also respect religious sentiments.
The Yogi government's decision has
caused a stir among meat traders and operators of illegal slaughterhouses. However, the government has already made it clear that only illegal slaughterhouses and shops located near religious places will be closed.
Yogi government has indicated that strict action will continue against illegal slaughter houses and illegal meat sale in the state in future as
well. The government believes that this decision will increase cleanliness, improve the environment of religious places and will help in maintaining law and order.
