Sharjeel Imam News: In the Jamia violence case (2019), the Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police on a petition challenging the trial court's order to frame serious charges including violence and arson against Sharjeel Imam. Justice Sanjeev Narula's bench has sought a reply from the police considering the seriousness of the case.
Why did Saket Court call him the 'main conspirator'?
On March 7, Saket Court had framed serious charges against 11 accused including Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha. The court had said that Sharjeel Imam was the mastermind of this violence. He not only instigated the violence but also carried it out as part of a deep conspiracy.
Who are the accused?
The 11 people against whom the Saket court has framed charges include Sharjeel Imam, Asif Iqbal Tanha, Ashu Khan, Chandan Kumar, Anal Hussain, Anwar, Yunus, Jumman, Rana, Mohammad Haroon and Mohammad Furkan.
What is the police claim?
Delhi Police called Sharjeel Imam the 'mastermind' of the violence that broke out in 2019 and said that he was trying to turn the CAA protest into a national movement. According to the police chargesheet, Sharjeel tried to spread hatred against the government and incite violence through his speeches.
The chargesheet also said that under the guise of protests against CAA , false propaganda was spread in Muslim-dominated areas that their citizenship would be taken away through this law and they would be sent to detention camps. Violence spread in Delhi due to this provocative propaganda.
Will the High Court reverse the decision?
Now the matter will be heard in the High Court. Will Sharjeel Imam get relief from the order of Saket Court, or will the Delhi Police strengthen its claims? This will be clear in the coming days. At present, this notice of the Delhi High Court has brought a new twist in the matter.
