Nikumbala Devi: Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram and Lanka King Ravana were contemporaries of Treta Yuga. Dashanan Ravana's father was Rishi Vishrava. Ravana's mother was Kaikasi. Rishi Vishrava's father was Maharishi Pulastya, who was the Manas Putra of Brahma Ji. Like his father Rishi Vishrava, Dashanan Ravana was knowledgeable and a scholar. In those times, Dashanan Ravana was also the greatest astrologer. Initially, Dashanan Ravana was a devotee of Brahma Ji. Later, Lanka King Ravana performed rigorous penance of Lord of gods, Mahadev, to obtain the boon of immortality.
Pleased with his hard devotion, Lord Shiva gave Ravana the knowledge of illusion instead of giving him the boon of immortality. After getting this boon, Ravana became invincible. However, later Ravana also misused his power. On the basis of his power, Ravana captured all the planets and placed them in the auspicious house of Meghnath's horoscope. At that time, Shanidev made Ravana's astrological calculations unsuccessful. Due to this, Meghnath could not become immortal.
Meghnath also wanted to attain immortality by performing hard penance of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva gave Pashupatastra as a boon to Meghnath. Through this weapon, Meghnath conquered the three worlds. He also imprisoned all the gods of heaven. At that time Brahma Ji had advised Meghnath not to do so. Like his father, Meghnath talked to Brahma Ji to release Indra on the condition of giving him the boon of immortality.
It is also said that Lord Kartikeya led the gods in this war, but allowed Meghnath to win in respect of Pashupatastra and Brahmastra. Seeing Meghnath's persistence, Brahma Ji told Meghnath the formula to become immortal. At this time, Brahma Ji advised Ravana to do sadhna of Mata Nikumbhala (Maa Nikumbhala Devi), the family deity of Ravana. Let us know about this mythological incident-
Who is Mother Nikumbala?
After Sita was kidnapped by Dashanan Ravana, Lord Shri Ram sent his servant Hanuman Ji to Lanka to find out. Hanuman Ji was successful in this attempt. At that time Hanuman Ji talked to Lanka King Ravana to return Mata Sita with respect. However, the stubborn Ravana rejected Hanuman Ji's proposal. After this, Angad, Vibhishan and Ravana's brother Kumbhakarna also advised to return Mata Janaki. Dashanan Ravana did not agree. As a result, with the help of the monkey army, Lord Shri Ram challenged Lanka King Ravana for war.
In this war, warriors of Ravana 's side were killed one after the other . Seeing this, Ravana got scared and sent his son Meghnath for the war. Meghnath obeyed his father's orders and fought with Lakshman ji. At the same time, Meghnath performed a tantra yajna for mother Nikumbhala to attain immortality. Vibhishan was aware of this. He immediately advised Hanuman ji to disrupt Meghnath's yajna.
It is said that the monkeys had disrupted Meghnath's yagya. Due to this, Meghnath could not get the Mayaavi chariot. If Meghnath is seated or is on this chariot, no warrior can kill Indrajit. Ravana had attained siddhi by worshipping Mata Nikumbala (Who is Maa Nikumbala).
