Muzaffarnagar Riots 2013: A local court hearing the Ashu murder case related to the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh in 2013 has acquitted 10 accused due to lack of evidence. All these accused have been acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The accused who were acquitted by the court include Gaurav, Amarpal, Rocky, Ratan, Dinesh, Yogesh, Abhishek, Ruby, Kapil Kumar and Manoj Kumar. Additional District and Sessions Judge Anjani Kumar Singh acquitted all the 10 accused and said that the prosecution has failed to prove its charges.
This order was passed on 26 September and was made available two days later. The plaintiff in the case, Imrana, had alleged in the case that her husband Ashu was beaten to death by rioters on 8 September 2013. At the time of the incident, he was going to the bus stand on a scooter in Fugana village.
One accused had died
According to the prosecution, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had filed a chargesheet against 11 people and an accused named Sachin had died while the case was pending. Advocate Shivraj Singh Malik said that during the hearing, two witnesses, including complainant Imrana and Ashu's mother Vakila, turned hostile and did not support the prosecution's claims.
More than 60 people were killed and more than 40,000 were rendered homeless in the communal riots that took place in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts in September 2013. People were forced to live in the shadow of terror for many days due to the actions of the rioters. Thousands of people had to leave their homes in the shadow of fear.
