The Union Cabinet approved setting up of 85 Kendriya Vidyalayas and 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas in underprivileged districts of the country. "PM Shri brought in to implement the new education policy - all Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas designated as PM Shri schools to make them a model for other schools," Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
The opening of these new Kendriya Vidyalayas will provide an opportunity to more than 82,000 students across the country to access affordable and high-quality education.
The total estimated requirement of funds for establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas and expansion of one existing Kendriya Vidyalaya over a period of eight years till 2025-26 is Rs 5,872.08 crore.
13.56 lakh students studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya
At present, there are 1,256 functional Kendriya Vidyalayas, including three abroad - Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran - and 13.56 lakh students are studying in these schools, an official statement said.
The fourth phase of Delhi Metro also got approval
Ashwini Vaishnav further informed that the Union Cabinet has also approved the fourth phase of Delhi Metro, about 26 km long Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor to enhance connectivity between the national capital and Haryana.
