According to the Vedic calendar, Margashirsha Amavasya is on December 01. On this day, people take bath and meditate in holy rivers including Ganga. Along with this, tarpan and pinddaan are also done for the ancestors. By offering tarpan to ancestors on Margashirsha Amavasya, a person gets freedom from Pitra Dosh.
