A Manipur minister has erected barbed wire fencing and iron netting around his ancestral house to avoid mob attacks. Temporary bunkers have also been arranged for security personnel.
Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution L Susindro Meitei's house in Khurai in Imphal East district was attacked by a mob on November 16. The minister said his properties were attacked on November 16 for the third time since the May 3 attack last year, while police have arrested seven people in connection with the attack on the houses of three ministers and six MLAs on November 16.
Identification of the accused
The protesters had targeted the houses of six missing people after their bodies were found. Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that those who targeted the houses of ministers and MLAs during the demonstrations on November 16 have been identified. Meanwhile, Manipur Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh said that 258 people have lost their lives so far in the violence that erupted in the state since May last year.
He said that the Centre will send about 90 more CAPF companies (about 10,000 soldiers) to the state. 198 companies are already present in the state. Kuldeep Singh said after a security review meeting in Imphal, "A total of 258 people have died, including terrorists. 32 people have been arrested in connection with the vandalism and arson in the properties of ministers and MLAs, while about 3,000 looted weapons have been recovered."
The state will get 90 companies of CAPF
He said, 'We are getting around 90 companies of CAPF, which is more than the 198 companies sent earlier to the state. A large number of them have already reached Imphal. We are distributing forces to protect the lives and property of civilians and sensitive places.'
Nine people were cremated
The last rites of nine people including three women and three children were performed on Friday in Jiribam district of Manipur amid tight security. All of them belonged to the Meitei community. The bodies of three women and three children were found on November 16. These people were missing since November 11. People were enraged after the bodies were found.
