When did the tradition of eating Khichdi start? (Makar Sankranti Khichdi Tradition)

According to a legend, when Khilji attacked India, many brave warriors and yogis of India were also involved in that war. There was an atmosphere of fighting all around. Due to this attack, no one got time to eat, due to which people were gradually becoming weak. To solve this problem, Guru Gorakhnath asked everyone to mix lentils, rice and vegetables and cook them together, which was very easy for everyone.

Also, it helped people fill their stomachs easily. After defeating Khilji, all the yogis including Gorakhnath got together and made this new dish on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, distributed it and named it Khichdi. Since then, the tradition of making Khichdi on the day of Makar Sankranti has been going on till today.
