There is a special significance of making and eating sesame laddus on Makar Sankranti . It is said that this day has a deep connection with sesame and for this reason this festival is also known as Til Sankranti. It is believed that sesame seeds have the blessings of Lord Yama and that is why they are known as 'seeds of immortality'. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, it is advised that black sesame seeds should be offered in temples to avoid the ill effects of Saturn or Rahu.
