New Delhi.  Filmmaker Kiran Rao is enjoying the success of her recently released film 'Missing Ladies'. Kiran Rao is the ex-wife of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan. In the year 2021, both of them decided to separate after ending their 16-year relationship. Now in an interview, Kiran Rao has talked about her relationship with Aamir Khan.

The shooting of Lagaan went on for six months

Kiran Rao told that she wrote her first film 'Dhobi Ghat' while staying with Aamir on the sets of 'Rang De Basanti'. While giving an interview to a YouTube channel named Cyrus Says, Kiran told how a call from Reem Kagti gave her the opportunity to work on her first project with Aamir Khan. Kiran Rao said that I was doing a job at that time when I got a call from Reema Kagti. She said that a film is being shot here in Bhuj, do you want to come? It is just a matter of three months and there is good work. This film was Lagaan, whose shooting went on there for about six months. Kiran said that she had not seen many Hindi films at that time and she agreed to go there.

Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan started dating during this film, not Lagaan, they wrote this film while living together

Kiran Rao's film Laapataa Ladies was in the news a lot. Aamir Khan produced this film and director Kiran Rao directed it. During an interview, Kiran Rao talked about her and Aamir Khan dating. Aamir and Kiran first met on the sets of Lagaan

Kiran said, "Aamir Khan was taking a huge risk by making a film based on sports 100 years ago and that too in Awadhi language. I learnt these things gradually and it was like a film school for me."

Kiran Rao was an assistant director

Kiran Rao was working as an assistant director on the sets of Lagaan. She said that the shoot was supposed to be for 3 months but since the movie was based on cricket, it got extended to 6 months. This was a very good year for her because along with Lagaan, she also had a monsoon wedding in the same year. Kiran Rao said that at that time Reema and Zoya were also shooting for Dil Chahta Hai and so they sent her to Goa for extra casting.

When did you start dating?

Reema was working on the sets of Swades when she started talking to Aamir Khan again. Aamir was shooting for Mangal Pandey at that time. It was during this time that both of them started dating each other. After this, Aamir got busy shooting for Rang De Basanti and Kiran Rao also started traveling with him. Kiran Rao was on the shoot with Aamir Khan for three months and during this time she wrote her film Dhobi Ghat.

Kiran Rao married Aamir Khan in 2005. They both have a son. However, they are now divorced.
