Lohardaga News: 32-year-old Ramu Mahato, a state police jawan, hanged himself to death in Kolsimri village of Kurdu police station area under Lohardaga district of Jharkhand. Police recovered his body on Friday. Ramu Mahato was posted in Simdega Police Line. He came home on leave on 13 December and was to return to duty on 22 December.

Initial investigation by the police has revealed that the jawan committed suicide due to family discord. Incidents of suicide by police and security forces personnel due to depression and stress are happening continuously in Jharkhand. From January this year till now, 12 jawans have committed suicide. On December 9, Havaldar Nandkishore Singh, posted in the CRPF camp in Tundi police station area of ​​Dhanbad district, died after being shot by his own rifle. It was suspected that he committed suicide. However, CRPF officers called it an accident.

Many soldiers have already given their lives

On 26 November, Sandeep Kumar Singh, a jawan of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, shot himself in Baliapur, Dhanbad. Sandeep was a resident of Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand and was on election duty in Jharkhand. On 5 November, SSB jawan Anappa Duggal, who had come to do assembly election duty at the camp located at the Government Upgraded High School in Bhandra police station area of ​​Lohardaga district, committed suicide by shooting himself with his INSAS rifle. 

Jawan shot himself in RPF camp

On October 2, a jawan named Rahul Kumar shot himself with his duty rifle in the CRPF camp in Sambo village under Nagdi police station area in Ranchi. He died on the spot. On the same day, the body of an NDRF jawan Jai Lakra was found hanging from a tree in Pokhar Toli of Airport police station in Ranchi. A day before this, an assistant sub-inspector of Jharkhand Police also shot himself to death in Karaikela of Chaibasa district. 

On 25 July, a soldier named Ashish Kumar committed suicide in CRPF 22nd Battalion camp located at Sheela OP of Simaria police station area of ​​Chatra district. In the last week of July, soldier Pramod Singh, who had come after transfer porting to Karamdih picket of Chhipadohar police station area of ​​Latehar district, died due to a bullet shot from his own weapon. On 18 June, a CISF soldier Sanjeet committed suicide after strangling his wife to death in Sector 8 of Harla police station area of ​​Bokaro.

A shocking case of suicide even during duty

On May 31, 31-year-old district police jawan Vikas Kumar, posted at Hazaribagh DIG residence, shot himself while on duty. He died on the spot. On February 6, a jawan named Kailash Chand Mehra committed suicide by hanging himself in CRPF 190 battalion camp in Chatra. He was a resident of Lohri village of Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
