Beirut: The Israeli army, disregarding international rules, on Sunday broke the main gate of the peacekeeping force compound in South Lebanon with a tank. After this, the tank also entered the compound for some distance. A total of five UN peacekeeping soldiers have been injured in Israeli army attacks in three separate incidents since Thursday. One soldier was injured late Saturday night.
34 countries condemned the attack
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and leaders of Western countries have strongly condemned these incidents. India and 34 other countries have strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on peacekeeping forces. In a joint statement issued in this regard, it has been said that Israel should immediately stop attacks on peacekeeping forces.
France summoned Israeli ambassador
US President Joe Biden has said that he will talk to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ask him to stop attacks on the UN force. In protest against these attacks, France has summoned the Israeli ambassador and expressed strong protest, while Italy and Spain have described the actions of the Israeli army as unjust and unacceptable.
Netanyahu appeals to UN to withdraw forces
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has requested the United Nations to remove the peacekeeping force from South Lebanon. He has said that these incidents are happening because Hezbollah fighters are taking cover of the peacekeeping force. Hezbollah fighters can also take the peacekeeping force soldiers hostage. It is worth mentioning that out of the 10,000 UN force soldiers deployed in South Lebanon, 900 are Indians.
15 people killed in Israeli attack
Fierce fighting continues between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in the southern part of Lebanon. The Israeli army is attacking with tanks near the border village of Ramya but is unable to find a way to move forward. However, Israeli air strikes continue in other areas of Lebanon.
A total of 15 people were killed and 36 injured in air strikes in three areas on Sunday. With this, the total number of people killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon has increased to 2,225. A nearly hundred-year-old market in Lebanon has suffered heavy damage in the latest Israeli attacks. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has attacked Israel with three drones.
