After almost six years, China has again spoken about increasing imports from India. China is India's biggest trading partner, but the trade deficit is continuously increasing in favor of China.
In such a situation, this assurance given by China is important. China's ambassador to New Delhi, Shu Feihong, said this in an interview given to China's official newspaper Global.
Provide equal opportunities for Chinese companies
In an interview to a Chinese newspaper on April 1, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and China, Feihong also asked the Indian government to provide equal opportunities to Chinese companies in India. He advocated strong bilateral relations between the two countries, saying that this would benefit both countries as well as Asia and the whole world.
There has been no discussion on business issues after the year 2019
- Data from the last few years shows that India's exports to China are continuously decreasing. The only way to reduce India's trade deficit is that India's exports to China also increase. The problem is that there has been no discussion since the year 2019 to resolve trade issues between India and China.
- After the intrusion of the Chinese army in eastern Ladakh in March 2020, tensions between the two countries had increased significantly, which had the most adverse effect on India's exports to China.
- China started importing rice from India in 2019, due to which India's exports increased by 16 percent to $ 20.87 billion in the year 2020, but in 2024 this figure decreased to $ 16.65 billion. In the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in October 2024, it was agreed to discuss all bilateral issues.
- Thereafter, there have been two meetings at the level of Foreign Ministers, once at the level of Foreign Secretary and once at the level of National Security Advisers, but there has been no news of any meeting between the Commerce Ministers or Finance Ministers of the two countries so far.
- Now it remains to be seen what steps are taken to implement what Ambassador Feihong said about increasing imports from India.
