India Canada Relations: Canada is trying to improve relations with India. The statement given by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs David Morrison clearly states that Canada respects India's territorial integrity and supports the policy of One India Policy. This statement can be considered part of an effort to improve the strained relations between India and Canada, especially when the relations between the two countries soured after the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Commenting on the activities of pro-Khalistan elements in Canada, Morrison said that such activities are terrible. However, they are legal in our country, as they come under the rights of freedom of expression. However, he stressed that Canada's policy is clear towards the integrity of India.
Tension increased after the murder of Nijjar
The Canadian minister's statement can be seen as an attempt to bring the constantly deteriorating bilateral relations between the two countries to a common level, as tensions between the two countries have increased in recent years over issues such as pro-Khalistan activities and the murder of Nijjar. Emphasizing the pro-Khalistan movement and freedom of expression in Canada, Ottawa said that it also favors taking strict action against hatred and violence.
Trudeau's move on Canada-India relations
Canada has been sending signals to India since the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year , when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elected for a historic third term. Trudeau had said that the dialogue with India can now resume on some very serious issues related to national security and the safety of Canadians and the rule of law.
