In Kerala, police arrested 9 people including the MLA's son on charges of possessing ganja. However, now CPI(M) MLA U Pratibha has denied the reports that her son was arrested with ganja. Her son also rejected the allegations on social media.
Kayamkulam MLA U Pratibha alleged on Facebook Live that her son was questioned only when he was sitting with his friends, adding that the media was harassing him. She also said, "I have been getting many phone calls since the news broke."
Excise officials came and started asking questions
The MLA further said, when my son and friend were sitting together, the excise officers came and started asking questions, but the news came that my son has been caught with ganja. The MLA said, 'If the news is true then I will apologize. If not, the media should apologize publicly.'
Nine people arrested with ganja
The excise department also said that they have arrested nine people, including the son of CPM MLA U Pratibha from Thakazhi in Kuttanad in Alappuzha district, with ganja. According to officials, all the nine have been released on bail.
Giving details of the case, an excise official said, "We seized ganja from a member of the group under the Thakazhi bridge. They were arrested for smoking and possessing ganja. Since it was a small quantity, all were released on bail." A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
