Twelve people, including four children, have died of mysterious fever following heavy rains and floods in Lakhpat taluka of Gujarat's Kutch district bordering Pakistan. The patients also had difficulty breathing. Local district panchayat members said doctors were unable to treat the fever.

Officials said on Sunday that the cause of death appears to be pneumonitis, though it has not been confirmed. Kutch Collector Amit Arora said, "Medical services have been increased in the taluka. Samples are being collected in view of the threat of H1N1, swine flu, Crimean-Congo fever, malaria, dengue."

Pneumonitis was said to be responsible for death

It does not seem to be an infectious disease. Pneumonitis is primarily being considered the cause of these deaths. 22 teams of the health department are working in the affected areas.

12 people died due to fever

Kutch district panchayat member Meenaba Jadeja, in a letter to Gujarat Congress chief Shaktisinh Gohil, claimed that 12 people had died of fever in Bekhda, Sanandro, Morgar and Bharvandh villages since September 3.
