How to test gold at home
You can check the purity of gold in many ways. For this you will need only a few items.
You have to put a few drops of vinegar in the gold jewellery. If the colour of the jewellery changes then it means that the gold has been adulterated. On the other hand, if the colour of the jewellery does not change then it means that the gold is pure.
To check gold jewellery, you have to rub it on a ceramic stone. If the colour of the jewellery turns slightly golden after rubbing it on the stone, it means that the gold is pure.
You can also check the purity of gold through a magnet. For this, you have to take a magnet near the gold jewellery. If the jewellery does not stick to the magnet, it means that there is no adulteration in the jewellery.
You fill a vessel with water and put the jewellery in it. If the jewellery does not sink in the water, it means that the jewellery is adulterated. Actually, the identity of real gold is that it sinks in water.
How to test silver at home
You can also check the purity of silver at home. There are many methods for this too.
Place an ice cube on any silver jewellery. If the ice cube melts quickly, it means that the silver is real.
Silver jewellery can also be tested using a magnet. If the silver jewellery is attracted to the magnet, it means the silver is fake.
Put a few drops of bleach on the silver jewellery. If the colour turns black as soon as you add bleach, it means that the silver is real. Actually, real silver reacts when bleach is added.
If you have a silver coin, then to check its purity, you have to drop the coin on the floor. If a bell-like sound is heard after the coin falls, then it means that the silver coin is genuine.
Silver jewellery also has a hallmark. You can see it with a magnifying lens. Real silver has a 925 stamp and BIS mark.

Apart from all these methods, you can also check the purity of gold and silver through mobile. For this, you have to install the BIS app in your phone. Here you have to go to the HUID option and enter the 6 digit HUID. If the jewellery is pure, then you will get all its details.
