Nowadays, people are resorting to cosmetic surgery and injections to look young for a long time. 'Vampire facial' is also in trend to keep the skin beautiful and young through injections on the face. A scary case related to this facial has come to light in which three women got infected with AIDS virus and HIV due to vampire facial.

On Thursday, the US Centers for Disease and Control (CDC) said that the woman probably got infected with the virus due to a vampire facial at a spa in the US state of New Mexico.

The CDC said this is the first known case of HIV infection through cosmetic injections.

In a press release, the CDC said, 'A case of HIV infection through cosmetic injection has never been seen before.'

Women got facial done from unlicensed spa

In 2018, a woman tested positive for HIV after undergoing a platelet-rich plasma microneedling procedure at an unlicensed spa in Mexico. After this, the CDC, along with the Health Department of New Mexico, investigated how HIV infection occurred through cosmetic injections.

CDC said that the woman neither took drugs by injection, nor was she given infected blood transfusion nor had sex with any partner infected with HIV. She got a vampire facial after which her HIV test was found positive.

In 2019, the New Mexico Health Department said that HIV infection was caused by receiving vampire facials at VIP Spa in Albuquerque. The spa was closed and the Health Department said that all those who got facials at the spa would be tested for HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C for free.

The CDC says that by 2023, five HIV patients have been identified, including four women and one man. The man is the partner of one in four women.

According to the CDC, two HIV-infected patients said that they may have been infected in some way before taking cosmetic injections. Three patients got this infection from the spa.

The American Academy of Dermatology says the vampire facial procedure takes 45 minutes to an hour. People take this treatment to hide the signs of aging. In this, blood is taken out from the arm and injected into the face of the same person.
