New Delhi. Diarrhea is a stomach problem that causes trouble for many people in summer. People usually know it as Loose Motion. This is a very troublesome condition because it causes weakness due to water loss from the body, stomach pain and frequent visits to the bathroom. This also leads to weight loss. Although diarrhea gets cured on its own in a few days, but if it does not get cured, then it can be cured with these infallible remedies.

Home remedies for diarrhea

  • The first step in treating diarrhea is to drink plenty of water. Drink a cup of water every time you go to the bathroom.
  • Drink electrolytes to recover lost calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphate, potassium and sodium and maintain body fluid balance.
  • Natural electrolytes like potassium, manganese, sodium are found in coconut water, hence in such a situation, definitely drink coconut water.
  • Eat small meals several times throughout the day instead of eating 3 large meals.
  • Take soup, lemon, salt and sugar mixed in water or any salty drink like that.
  • Take potassium rich diet like banana, potato, fruit juice etc.
  • Avoid dairy products, fermented foods and gluten as they increase hyper gut motility, abdominal pain and bloating. Also stay away from spicy foods, alcohol and caffeine as they further trigger diarrhea.
  • Start taking fiber-rich diet gradually, which will stop extra water from coming out of the body, but do not suddenly take a very high fiber diet, as it may cause problems in digesting it.
  • Thin moong dal khichdi with asafoetida and salt-turmeric is a boiled starch which not only eliminates dehydration in diarrhea but also provides energy to the body and fills the stomach in such a condition.
  • Take anti-diarrheal medicine or antibiotics as directed by your doctor.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with handwash after every motion and do not share your leftovers with anyone.
  • Cook food hygienically. Wash vegetables properly and cook them. Keep knives and chopping boards clean. Do not cook food in dirty or used utensils. Do not eat stale food. Avoid frozen or processed food. By taking these small steps, food poisoning and diarrhea can be easily avoided.
