Delhi Electricity Demand in Winter: This winter, the maximum demand for electricity in Delhi can reach a record 6,386 MW. Officials of power distribution companies said this on Thursday (28 November). Last year, the maximum demand for electricity in the national capital was 5,816 MW in winter. According to the estimate of the State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) Delhi, the maximum demand for electricity in the city this winter can go up to more than 6,300 MW (6,386 MW).
It is worth noting that the maximum demand for electricity in Delhi this summer was 8,686 MW. A BSES spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday that all preparations have been completed to ensure better power supply to its nearly two crore electricity consumers (more than 50 lakh registered customers) in winter.
How will the record demand for electricity be met in Delhi
He said, "The company will get sufficient power under long term power purchase agreements from conventional power plants. Also, this winter it will meet 53 percent of the total electricity needs of consumers through green electricity. This includes 840 MW solar power, 546 MW hydropower, 500 MW wind power and about 40 MW electricity produced from waste.
How much is the electricity demand likely to increase during the winter season?
A Tata Power-DDL spokesperson said the peak power demand in its region is expected to exceed 1,840 MW this winter. "We have made adequate arrangements to meet the demand, including long-term agreements for power and ensuring reliability of equipment during low temperatures and fog conditions," he said.
The spokesperson said that apart from this, we have strengthened our power network by taking precautionary measures. BSES said that during the winter season, the demand for electricity in its BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) area can touch 2,682 MW and in BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) area it can touch 1,246 MW. Last year, in winter, the demand for electricity in BRPL area was 2,529 MW, while in BYPL area the demand was 1,210 MW.
