
The death toll in the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday is constantly rising. So far, the death toll has crossed 1000. The epicenter of the earthquake that struck on Friday afternoon was just west of Myanmar's second largest city Mandalay. Its impact was felt in several major urban centers, including the capital Naypyidaw Earlier, initial reports said that 694 people were killed and hundreds were injured due to the earthquake in Myanmar.
The epicenter of the earthquake was near Mandalay and it also caused damage in Myanmar and Bangkok, Thailand. Six people died and many were injured when an under-construction building collapsed in Bangkok.

A 33-storey building under construction in Bangkok, Thailand collapsed due to an earthquake. The collapse of the building spread heavy dust and debris in the surrounding area. People were seen running in Bangkok and relief work is underway.
Beginning of aid and relief efforts
The Myanmar government has appealed for blood donations for relief efforts and has accepted foreign aid. China and Russia have sent rescue teams, while the United Nations has allocated $5 million for emergency relief efforts.
Earthquake was also felt in China
Tremors of the earthquake were also felt in China's Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. In China's Ruili city, some buildings were damaged due to the earthquake and residents there were also affected by its intensity.
Earth shook in Afghanistan
Apart from Myanmar and Thailand, earthquake tremors were also felt in Afghanistan on Saturday morning. The magnitude of the earthquake in Afghanistan was measured at 4.7 on the Richter scale. However, no news of any damage has been received so far.
