Cyclone Fengal has wreaked havoc in Tamil Nadu, it is raining continuously here. Due to continuous rain, a landslide occurred in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, due to which a rock fell on a house. 7 people including 5 children died due to the rock fall. Out of these, 4 bodies have been recovered and sent to the hospital.
Rescue operation is going on at the site. NDRF and Army have also been deployed in the rescue operation. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also expressed condolences to the people killed in the landslide. He announced a sum of Rs 5 lakh for the bereaved family.
CM Stalin appealed to PM Modi
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also visited the state and said that Cyclone Fengal has caused "unprecedented" devastation in the state and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately release interim relief of Rs 2,000 crore from the NDRF. He said that this amount will help the administration to restore the damaged infrastructure.
Rain warning in many states including Kerala
A high alert has been issued in areas prone to cyclone Fengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a warning of significant rainfall in Kerala due to cyclone Fengal, which has currently weakened into a low pressure area over north interior Tamil Nadu and extended up to south interior Karnataka.
The winds will be strong
Meteorologists expect the system to move further and develop further, likely emerging over the southeast and east-central Arabian Sea near the northern coasts of Kerala and Karnataka around December 3.
