These days, Chhath Puja is being celebrated all over the country. Women are observing a 36-hour Nirjala fast. In such a situation, it is important for women to take utmost care of their health during this time. Especially those who are suffering from diabetes or blood pressure. This festival is a grand festival of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. This fast begins with Nahai Khay. This fast of Chhath is considered very difficult. Dr. Akash Shah, Consultant Pathologist of Newberg Diagnostics, Ahmedabad says that this fast can be challenging for women suffering from diabetes or high blood pressure. Therefore, it is important to make a safe plan by meeting the doctor.

Take advice from an expert before fasting

Dr. Akash Shah says that it is very important to consult a doctor before starting any fast. Especially if you have diabetes or blood pressure problems . Experts can give you the right advice on how to adjust the dosage of medicines or insulin, so that hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or a sudden increase in blood pressure can be avoided. He said that before doing any fast, it is very important to understand your physical limitations and be aware of the potential risks.

How to control blood sugar level

Apart from this, the doctor said that in the absence of regular food, the possibility of fluctuations in blood sugar level increases. To avoid this, you can eat a balanced meal at sunrise, which is rich in carbohydrates, fiber and healthy fats. Actually, whole grains, nuts, seeds and fruits help in keeping you energetic for a long time. But keep in mind, eat such fruits which have less sugar content. Apart from this, you can also drink herbal tea, which will keep you hydrated throughout the day. He also advised that if dizziness or excessive sweating occurs due to staying away from fasting for a long time during the fast, then women should break the fast immediately. This can maintain their blood sugar level. Also, any serious situation can be avoided.

Women should meditate to reduce stress

The doctor said that women suffering from high blood pressure should avoid eating foods with high sodium or high salt before and after fasting. Because these can increase blood pressure. If there is such a problem, then women can consume spinach or bananas rich in potassium. These will prove helpful in balancing the sodium level. Women suffering from blood pressure should rest during the day to reduce stress during the fast. If you want, you can also do meditation. This will maintain the blood pressure level.

By following these guidelines given by the doctor, women can take care of their health during fasting and can also follow their religious practices safely.
