Toronto: Canada has refused to provide security to the Indian consulate camps. After this, the Indian Consulate in Toronto announced the cancellation of some previously scheduled consulate camps. The embassy said that this decision has been taken after the Canadian security officials expressed their inability to provide minimum security. The Indian Consulate made this announcement on social media.

The Consulate said that the security agencies expressed their inability to provide minimum security to the community camp organisers. Following this, the Consulate has decided to cancel some of the scheduled consulate camps.

Let us tell you that recently anti-India extremists spread violence in the Hindu Sabha temple complex in Brampton. A consulate camp was organized here. The extremists attacked women, children and the elderly. The video of the incident went viral on social media. After this, India also reacted strongly in the whole matter and raised the issue of strict action against the culprits and ensuring the safety of all the temples with Canada. PM Modi also expressed grief over the incident.

Security not received

The Indian High Commission in Ottawa and the Indian Consulates General in Vancouver and Toronto organized consular camps for the benefit and convenience of Jeevan Pramaan Patra beneficiaries. Based on the existing security arrangements in Canada, the Canadian authorities were requested to provide strong security during the consular camps. However, Canada expressed its inability to provide security. Following this, the camps have been cancelled.

We are extremely concerned about safety

The embassy further said that it is extremely disappointing to allow such disruptions in the routine consular functions organised by our consulates with full cooperation of the local co-organisers. We are extremely concerned about the safety of applicants, including Indian nationals.

There were attempts to disrupt the camp earlier too

There were attempts to disrupt the embassy camps held in Vancouver and Surrey on November 2 and 3. The embassy said that the organization of the upcoming camps will depend on the security arrangements of the Canadian authorities. It is noteworthy that diplomatic tensions have been going on between India and Canada for the last one year. Canada has violated various international norms like the Vienna Convention. It also monitored Indian diplomats. However, the Indian Foreign Ministry has lodged a formal protest with the Canadian government.
