New Delhi. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences over the train accident in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote on Twitter, "The loss of life in the train accident in Darjeeling, West Bengal is extremely sad and heartbreaking. My condolences are with the bereaved families. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give place to the departed souls in his lotus feet and speedy recovery to the injured.''

A freight train has hit the Kanchanjunga Express train in Darjeeling district of West Bengal . 15 people, including the driver, co-driver and guard, have died in the accident and about 40 people are reported to be injured. Relief and rescue operations are underway. The accident took place between Rangapani and Nijbari stations, a little ahead of New Jalpaiguri station. 

Prime Minister Modi expressed grief and announced compensation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident. The injured will be given an assistance of Rs 50,000.
