US President vehicles America's newly elected President Donald Trump will take oath as President tomorrow i.e. on 20 January. Trump's swearing-in ceremony is going to be quite royal. For this, he has invited many big personalities including heads of many countries.

After becoming the President of America, Trump's security arrangements will be tightened. Not only this, whenever Trump goes on a trip, he will use high-tech vehicles. The list of vehicles of the American President includes many armored vehicles and ships.

The US President has no shortage of options to travel, from Air Force One and Marine One to Cadillac One... everything from sky to ground is hi-tech.

Why is 'Ground Force One' special?

  • Ground Force One is a 45-foot-long bullet-proof bus specially designed by the Secret Service.
  • Like the "Cadillac One" car, the US President's Ground Force One is also jet black in color.
  • The Secret Service purchased Ground Force One from Tennessee-based company Hemphill Brothers Koch for around Rs 10 crore.
  • The bus is fitted with all safety precautions including anti-blowout tyre protection, armoured exterior and heavily strengthened glass.
  • Ground Force One also carries a fire suppression system, oxygen tanks to provide breathable air in case of a chemical attack, and an extra supply of blood for the President in case he is injured.
  • In addition to security features, the bus is equipped with a full set of office equipment including phone, television, radio and internet.
  • Since all the windows on the bus except the front one are darkly tinted, the President has to stand next to the driver to wave to the crowd.
  • The bus also makes transportation easier, as the President can travel quickly from Air Force One to Ground Force One.

Before the purchase of Ground Force One, the Secret Service would rent a new bus each time the president needed one and then modify it with armor plating and other security features.

'Marine One' makes air travel safer

Whenever the US President goes for a secret meeting or a special trip, he uses the Marine One helicopter. Marine One is a state-of-the-art helicopter used for the US President.

What is the history of 'Marine One'

  • The US military adopted helicopters as early as the 1940s, but the Secret Service prevented presidents from flying in them due to security concerns. However, this policy changed the following decade as the Cold War necessitated their use for emergency evacuations due to fear of nuclear attacks.
  • US officials then settled on the Bell H-13J, a slightly slower and smaller helicopter that could seat only one pilot and two passengers but was known for its safety record.
  • In a test known as 'Operation Alert', Dwight D. Eisenhower became the first president to fly in a helicopter on July 12, 1957. The Bell H-13J was flown by a US Air Force pilot, with a Secret Service agent aboard.
  • Subsequently, the use of helicopters in presidential travel declined and were soon replaced by larger models.
