Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) demolished illegal construction on the footpath adjoining Lotus Pond, the residence of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

The move comes 10 days after Jagan stepped down as Andhra Pradesh chief minister. According to a senior GHMC official, corporation officials demolished constructions adjacent to the compound wall to lay tiles on the pavement near Jagan's residence. These structures were used by security personnel.

The neighbors had complained

A senior official of GHMC's town planning department said they had asked the person concerned at Jagan's residence six months ago to remove the structure so that footpath work could be carried out.

Residents of the colony had complained about encroachment of the footpath. The encroachment was causing inconvenience to commuters on the road. When contacted, YSRCP sources said the structures were purely temporary and were constructed for the convenience of security personnel during rains and summer.
