There are many places to visit in Meghalaya but there is also a river whose water is crystal clear. The name of this river is Umngot River which is also called Doki Lake. This river is very beautiful, calm, and very clean. Docky is a small town on the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. It is near Mawlynnong, a village in the East Khasi Hills district, and was named Asia's cleanest village in 2003.

Where does this river originate from?

This river flows through Doki in Bangladesh and divides the Jaintia and Khasi hills into two parts. Mawlynyong is the village through which the river passes. It is 78 km away from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. 

Umngot is considered one of the cleanest rivers in India and an important destination for fishermen. There is a swing bridge here, called Doki Bridge, which is built on the river. 

How to reach?

The nearest airport to Docky is Umroi Airport in Shillong which is a little over 100 km away. However, travelers often find it more convenient to fly into the popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam, and then travel by road to Docky via Shillong. 

 The airport in Guwahati is located about 200 km away and has good connectivity with many cities in the country. Buses and taxis are easily available from both airports to Docky. If budget is not an issue, travelers can also book a helicopter ride from Guwahati to Shillong and then a road trip to Dockyard.

The nearest railway station from Docky is Guwahati Railway Station which is located about 170 km away. Travelers can take buses or private taxis from the station and reach Dockie by road which passes through Shillong on the way. The entire journey takes approximately 5 hours.

What season to go?

The best time to visit Doki is from November to May as Doki can be visited throughout the year, but winter and summer seasons from November to May are the best time to explore its immense natural beauty. Avoid going during the rainy season.
