Unnao. On Wednesday morning at 5 o'clock, near Awasthi Kheda in Behta Mujawar area on Lucknow-Agra Expressway, a sleeper bus rammed into a milk tanker from behind while trying to overtake it from the left side in the overtaking lane. The driver had consumed alcohol with the co-driver at a dhaba between Gorakhpur and Basti at 12 midnight. 18 people including the bus and tanker driver died in the accident, 19 were injured.

Apart from the UPDA team, the Bangarmau and Behta Mujawar police called an ambulance from the CHC and took the people trapped in the bus to the CHC Bangarmau. 15 were referred to the district hospital. From here, one was referred to Kanpur LLR Hospital and five were referred to Lucknow Trauma Center. More than half of the driver's side was torn due to the collision of the bus from the right side. Three people including the tanker driver have been identified. Efforts are being made to identify the others.

The driver of the sleeper bus with Mahoba registration number left for Delhi from Shivhar in Bihar with about 45 passengers. He stopped at three places on the way to Behta Mujawar in Unnao. At 5 am in the morning, near Awasthi Kheda in Behta Mujawar, he tried to overtake a milk tanker from the left side which was running in the overtaking lane. Due to being drunk and speeding, the bus collided with the tanker from behind. The tanker overturned right there and the milk filled in it started flowing. The right side of the bus started tearing. Most of the passengers were asleep, due to which no one got a chance to control themselves.

In the accident, someone's hand got cut off and someone's leg got torn in the middle. UPDA workers who arrived after 20 minutes amid the screams and cries informed the police and started the rescue operation.

CO Bangarmau Arvind Kumar and the police of Behta Mujawar police station reached the spot with the local CHC ambulance. The passengers trapped under the seats were taken out and taken to the CHC. The doctor declared 18 dead including a five-year-old child, three women and 14 men, while 15 of the 19 injured were referred to the district hospital.

No papers were found for the bus

None of the documents of the bus are complete. From fitness to insurance, the period of the bus has expired. No papers of the bus have been found. The bus is registered in Mahoba district in the name of a farmer.

Investigation has revealed that Chandan Jaiswal, a resident of Paharganj, Delhi, was operating the bus illegally. ARTO Enforcement Arvind Singh has filed a report at Behatamujawar police station on the basis of the bus number. DM Gaurang Rathi took charge of the treatment of the injured at the district hospital, while SP Siddharth Shankar Meena first reached the spot and then the district hospital. The PMO announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund on X. The SP said that an investigation is being conducted as to how the bus was being operated illegally.
