New Delhi: Sometimes what people consider as a weakness becomes your strength, the biggest example of this is Amitabh Bachchan himself. There was a time when he was rejected for his heavy voice, later on, on the strength of the same voice, he left a different mark on cinema.

Amitabh Bachchan 's strong and heavy voice became his identity. Apart from acting in films, he also emerged as a voice over artist. Born on 11 October 1942 in Prayagraj, Amitabh's father Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a poet and mother Teji Bachchan was a social activist. Despite not being from a film background, he chose acting as his career.

Was rejected for heavy voice

Amitabh Bachchan was always fond of working in films. He went to Delhi and auditioned to become a newsreader in All India Radio (AIR), but was rejected due to his heavy voice. Later he joined theatre. It is said that due to his tall height and heavy voice he did not get films, but he definitely got the job of voice narrator in Mrinal Sen's National Award winning film Bhuvan Som.

Amitabh's debut in Bollywood

Bhuvan Som opened the doors of the film industry for Amitabh Bachchan. Then he got his first film Saat Hindustani. He initially worked in many films as a supporting actor and then became famous as the lead actor in Zanjeer. After this, he made a distinct identity for himself in the industry by working in films like Deewar and Sholay.

Who started the trend of advance booking?

You probably don't know that from the 70s to the 90s, Amitabh Bachchan ruled the film industry. The Angry Young Man from Zanjeer left such an impression on the audience that people would stand in long queues outside theatres for hours to watch his films. According to IMDb, the trend of advance booking and early morning shows started in the 70s for Amitabh Bachchan, because at that time people were so desperate to watch his films that they would stand outside theatres from 5 am. There would be queues of up to 2-3 kilometres outside theatres and traffic jams would occur.

All the theaters were booked two weeks ago

In a blog, Amitabh Bachchan had revealed that the film Shahenshah (12 February 1988) had a historic advance booking which never happened again in the history of Hindi films. All the theatres were booked by 1 February 1988, two weeks before the release of the film. This had never happened before. In that era, 20 thousand people went to watch the first show. According to Bollywood Hungama, the film did a business of around 6 crores at that time.
