Jantar Mantar Protest: A protest was held at Jantar Mantar today on behalf of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPB). A plan was made for the protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill at the protest site. The organizers also talked about protests in major cities of the country. The Muslim Personal Law Board announced a protest in Patna on March 20 and in Vijayawada on March 24. On Sunday, a delegation of the Muslim Personal Law Board met the Delhi Police and demanded to extend the protest time by one hour till 2 pm.

Delhi Police had refused to give permission citing law and order. On Monday, from 10 am to 1 pm, protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar. During the protest, some people from Hindu organizations also reached Jantar Mantar. Policemen stopped the Hindu protesters before the protest site. In protest, the workers of Hindu organizations sat on the road. Police persuaded the protesters and removed them from the spot.

Outline of the movement made at the protest site

The Muslim Personal Law Board was allowed to protest till 1 pm. When the protest did not end after 1 pm, police officers arrived. They ordered the organizers to end the protest and vacate the protest site. After the protest time was over, an announcement was made over the loudspeaker. Muslim organizations were told that the stipulated time for the protest was over. Therefore, the protest site should be vacated.

AIMPB opposes Wakf Amendment Bill

A day earlier, a decision was taken in the meeting of the Muslim Personal Law Board to protest at Jantar Mantar. Muslim organizations believe that the proposed changes in the Waqf Act are a threat to autonomy. The Muslim Personal Law Board has indicated that if the Waqf Amendment Bill is not repealed, there will be widespread protests across the country.
