Let us tell you that this disease has been confirmed in a 72-year-old man from West Delhi. He was admitted to AIIMS on November 3. The patient admitted in the hospital was suffering from diabetes and other diseases. However, he was discharged from the hospital on November 15 after treatment. Although this is an "isolated" case, experts are advising to take it seriously.

 

Japanese encephalitis is a viral infection

Government officials have advised vaccination, mosquito prevention and cleanliness to prevent Japanese encephalitis . They have assured that the situation is under control and there is no need to panic. Sources told news agency PTI that Japanese encephalitis is a viral infection caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus. This virus is mainly spread by the bite of mosquitoes, especially Culex species.

1,548 cases were reported in 2024

Japanese encephalitis infection directly affects the brain. This disease is more common in rural areas of Asia. It is at its peak when the monsoon season arrives and mosquito breeding increases. According to 2024 data, 1,548 cases have been reported from 24 states and union territories of India. 925 cases were registered in Assam alone. However, not every infected person shows symptoms in this disease.

 

This disease can also kill you

In many cases, it has happened that the patient showed mild symptoms and he recovered quickly. However, in severe cases, this disease can also kill the patient. Vaccination can be the best way to prevent Japanese Encephalitis. Since 2013, the government has included the vaccine against Japanese Encephalitis in the Universal Immunization Program. Vaccines are also available for adults in areas where more cases of this disease have been found.

If you want to avoid this disease, then protect yourself from mosquitoes. You can use mosquito nets at home. Do not let water accumulate anywhere. If you see or feel any symptoms, go to the doctor immediately. Take necessary advice from them. The Health Ministry has taken all necessary health steps under the guidelines of the National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC).
