
A shocking theft has been revealed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport). A loader working in ground handling at the airport very cleverly stole 75 expensive mobile phones of Samsung S-25 Ultra model.
This theft at a high-security place like the airport has alerted the security agencies. The police have arrested 28-year-old accused Monu alias Nikhil Kumar and so far 36 stolen mobile phones have been recovered. The search for the remaining phones and other accused involved in the case is on.
How was the theft revealed?
Sanjay Yadav, the main complainant of Skyways Cargo Services, a logistics partner company of Samsung India Electronics, said that on January 27, 2025, his company had sent 280 Samsung S-25 Ultra mobile phones in four master PVC boxes to Indore. But when the consignment reached Indore, only three boxes arrived there. The fourth box, which contained 75 mobile phones, had disappeared. As soon as the complaint was lodged, the IGI Airport police station registered a case and started investigation.
This is how the police reached the accused
. A special team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Sushil Goyal to investigate this high-profile theft. Footage of all the CCTV cameras of the airport was examined, but no concrete evidence was found. All the employees loading and unloading the shipment were questioned.
The location of the stolen mobile phones was tracked through technical surveillance. The police got the first clue when some of the stolen mobile phones were found active with Suman Kumar, a mobile dealer in East Patel Nagar. When Suman was questioned, he told that he had bought these mobiles from Arun Sharma (resident of Ghaziabad).
Arun further revealed that he had purchased 34 mobile phones from Sahil (resident of Mathura), besides, two mobile phones were recovered from a shopkeeper named Chintu in Farrukh Nagar, Gurugram, which were sold by accused Nikhil.
After the arrest, the accused
Monu alias Nikhil Kumar confessed that he had been working as a loader for Air India SATS company at IGI Airport for the past two years. During loading, he saw 280 mobiles kept in four big boxes and got tempted.
When one box of the shipment was lying unattended, he stole it. After stealing, he hid the mobile phones in an old container at the airport and started taking them out slowly. He sold 55 mobile phones to his friend Sahil and two mobile phones to Chintu for Rs 2 lakh.
Recovery so far and further action
According to Delhi Police, a total of 36 stolen mobile phones have been recovered so far. The main buyer Sahil is absconding, his search is on. Police is continuously conducting raids to recover the remaining mobile phones.
