New Delhi: Textile Minister Giriraj Singh has said that the ministry has prepared a roadmap for the next five years in the last 100 days and work has also started accordingly. He claimed that a target has been set to take the current textile sector business of $165 billion to $350 billion by 2030.
At the same time, there is also a target to increase the direct employment of this sector from the current 4.5 crore to 6 crore. For the creation of 1.5 crore new jobs, the ministry is focusing on sectors ranging from increasing silk production to technical textiles, PM Mitra Park, man-made fiber, textile startups.
The Union Textiles Minister said that India's domestic market is very helpful in the development of the textile sector. Our population is constantly increasing and they all need clothes. Therefore, we do not have any challenge from countries like Vietnam or Bangladesh. 350 brands of the world get their clothes made from India.
Exports are also increasing
To promote exports, the government is going to organize a program like Bharat Tex in February next year in which more than 6000 buyers from more than 110 countries are coming. National Textile Mission has been started to promote technical textiles. In the year 2014, the export of technical textiles was zero which has now reached 2.6 billion dollars.
A target has been set to take the export of technical textiles to $10 billion by 2030. Research is underway on more than 150 projects related to technical textiles and 11 startups have been approved for funding by the ministry.
Investment of Rs 70,000 crore will come
Giriraj Singh said that seven PM Mitra parks have been approved and these parks will bring an investment of Rs 70,000 crore in the textile sector and generate employment for 21 lakh people. The foundation stone of one of these parks was laid in Amravati on 20 September.
He said that the work of training weavers and handicrafts artisans has been started. There is a huge possibility of increasing production in the silk sector and work is also being done in this direction. He said that a scheme has been prepared for the upliftment of the silk industry of Bhagalpur in Bihar. However, he did not give detailed information about the scheme.
