News Topical, Digital Desk : The Indian government is making continuous efforts to help the 16 Indian crew members  aboard a commercial ship seized in Iran last month. The Indian Embassy in Tehran on Saturday made it clear that it will continue to pressurise Iranian authorities to ensure consular access to Indians at the earliest.

Efforts underway to free 16 Indian sailors stranded in Iran

According to the embassy, the ship, MT Valiant Roar, was detained on December 14. Upon receiving information, the Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas took immediate action.

"The Indian Consulate in Bandar Abbas immediately wrote to the Iranian government seeking consular access to the crew," the embassy said in an official statement.

Subsequently, this request was repeated several times. In addition to diplomatic letters, personal meetings were held in Bandar Abbas and Tehran, including discussions at the ambassadorial level.

The embassy believes that the issue will fall under Iran's judicial process, but the Indian side is insisting on expediting the process.

Trying to contact UAE as well

The embassy requested Iranian authorities to allow the Indian crew members to contact their families in India. The ship's owner, based in the United Arab Emirates, was also contacted on December 15. The Embassy has spoken with the company's agents in Iran to ensure the ship receives essential food, water, and fuel. Furthermore, legal assistance is being arranged for the Indian crew members in Iranian courts.

"Upon receiving information that the ship's food and water stocks were running low, the Mission intervened with the Iranian Navy in early January to arrange for emergency supplies of food and water," the embassy said.

The Indian Consulate in Dubai is also putting pressure on the ship's owner company to provide legal assistance.
