Kiev. Ukraine targeted the Toropets Russian military depot in Tver province, 500 kilometers from its border, in a drone attack on Tuesday night. The attack was so severe that the missiles and shells stored there started exploding and it felt like an earthquake.
Earthquake-like tremor recorded
NASA satellites detected large heat sources over an area of 14 square kilometers, while sensors at earthquake monitoring stations recorded a small earthquake-like tremor in the area. Locals were evacuated to safer places after the attack.
Attack on Russian arms depot
According to the security officer of Kiev, more than 100 kamikaze drones made in Ukraine were used in the attack in Toropets, a village of about 11,000 people, 380 kilometers away from Moscow. This military depot, spread over about six kilometers, was filled with Iskander and Tochka-U missiles, glide bombs, artillery shells, as well as North Korea's KN-23 short range ballistic missiles. After the attack, the entire depot kept burning with fire and loud explosions.
Explosions like 200-240 tons
According to Russian media, Russia's air defense system was working to prevent this fierce drone attack. However, no information was given about the loss of life and property in this attack. At the same time, some videos of this attack were also allegedly broadcast online, which received strong reactions. Reuters quoted George William Herbert of the Middlebury Institute for International Studies in Monterey, California, as saying that the size of the main explosion seen in the video appears to be equivalent to 200-240 tons of high explosives.
