Dhaka: Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan of the Supreme Court in Bangladesh has resigned from the post of head of the judiciary. Protesters surrounded the Supreme Court in Dhaka on Saturday. After this, all the judges including the Chief Justice were asked to resign by 1 pm.

The Chief Justice told reporters at the Supreme Court complex that he has decided to resign keeping in mind the safety of judges of the Supreme Court, High Courts and lower courts across the country amid the emerging situation.

Asked whether other Supreme Court judges would also resign, the Chief Justice said, "It is their decision."

Muhammad Yunus becomes the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh 

The protesters had warned that if the judges and Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan do not resign, they will attack their residences. After Sheikh Hasina left the country, a new government has been formed there under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus.
