Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also completely rejected media reports of Sheikh Hasina's visa being cancelled. He said that no one has cancelled the Awami League leader's visa nor has she applied for political asylum anywhere.
Sheikh Hasina's visa cancelled?
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Wazed said, "Nobody has cancelled her visa. She has not applied for political asylum anywhere. These are all rumours." He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for saving Sheikh Hasina's life.
'Thanks to Prime Minister Modi for saving my mother's life'
Sheikh Hasina's son said, 'I express my personal gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the Government of India for their prompt action to save my mother's life. I will always be grateful to PM Modi.' He further said that 'India needs to play a leadership role in the world and should not allow other foreign powers to control the situation, because this is India's neighbourhood. This is the eastern part of India.'
'Hasina government maintained peace in Bangladesh'
Wazed said Bangladesh developed economically and remained peaceful during Hasina's rule. He said, 'No one can deny that Sheikh Hasina's government maintained peace in Bangladesh, maintained economic development, stopped militancy and kept the eastern part of our subcontinent stable. We are the only government that has proved that we can do this. Other governments have tried, but they have failed.'
Wazed called the new government unconstitutional, as the Bangladeshi constitution states that a non-elected government cannot remain in power.
