
United Nations: UN General Assembly presidency Former Cameroonian Prime Minister Philemon Yang assumed the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. He called on the world's nations to come together and address global challenges such as climate change, poverty, conflict and armed violence.
uniting to tackle serious issues
Philemon Yang said it is doubtful that nations can unite to tackle these and other serious issues. But we must demonstrate that international cooperation is the most effective tool we have to address the serious and transcendent issues we face. Yang was the Prime Minister of Cameroon from 2009 to 2019.
Peace and security are paramount
He said that the foundation of his one-year presidency will be built on the principles of unity in diversity. Peace and security will remain an issue of paramount importance. That is why, I will urge everyone to intensify their determination to prioritize the resolution of conflicts, including the difficult conflicts in the Gaza Strip, Haiti and Ukraine.
On this occasion, Dennis Francis urged the United Nations to come forward to fulfill its mandate to maintain international peace and security.
