News Topical, Digital Desk : Top officials from the United States, Ukraine, and European countries held talks in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the US peace plan for the Ukraine war. The US and Ukraine made every effort to address shortcomings in the 28-point peace plan to end the war with Russia and to reach a consensus on a revised peace plan that would protect Ukraine's interests.

Following the talks, the two countries said in a joint statement that they had drafted an "improved peace plan," after the Trump administration's peace plan was criticized by Ukraine's allies as favoring Russia. Russia, meanwhile, said it would wait to see what outcome the talks between the US and Ukraine on a potential peace plan yield.

Criticism of Trump's peace plan

However, Trump's peace plan at the meeting was criticized for favoring Russia and faced opposition from Ukraine's European allies. He also proposed a counter-plan with US security guarantees for Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukrainians are viewing this peace plan with suspicion following a deadly drone strike in Kharkiv.

Draft prepared after discussion

However, the US and Ukraine said in a joint statement that they had drafted an "enhanced peace plan" following the talks. However, no specific details were provided. Some of Ukraine's allies have welcomed the talks.

It is noteworthy that US President Donald Trump stated in his post that Ukraine owes the US nothing for its efforts to end the ongoing war with Russia. This is despite the US continuing to supply it with weapons and European countries also purchasing oil from Russia.

What did Zelensky say after Trump's statement?

Hours after Trump's statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Trump and the United States for their efforts to end the war. He also thanked the European Union, G7, and G20 countries for their support to Ukraine. The United States has drafted a 28-point peace plan to Ukraine aimed at ending the war.

The draft includes conditions for Ukraine to give up its claim to the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces, which were captured by Russia during the war, reduce the size of its army, abandon its desire to join NATO, and not deploy European troops after the war ends.

Trump has given Ukraine until November 27th to accept a peace plan with these conditions. However, Zelensky has stated that accepting these conditions would cost Ukraine its dignity along with its land, and that if it does not accept the plan, it will lose US support. This is a difficult time for Ukraine.
