News Topical, Digital Desk : Vitamin D deficiency has become a common problem today, troubling a large population in India. It causes symptoms like fatigue, hair loss, and bone pain (Vitamin D Deficiency Symptoms). Many people begin taking supplements on the advice of a doctor, but even when they get their blood tested, their vitamin D levels remain low.

If this is happening to you, it's not the supplements that are to blame, but rather some factors related to your body and lifestyle (Reasons Why Vitamin D Is Not Working). Let's understand why vitamin D supplements aren't working.

Fat reduction

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. This means it requires fat to be absorbed by the body. Therefore, if you take vitamin D tablets on an empty stomach or your diet is low in fat, your body will not be able to absorb it. Therefore, take it with your heaviest meal of the day, which contains healthy fats.

Magnesium deficiency

This is the most important, but often overlooked, factor. Magnesium is needed to convert vitamin D into its active form in the body. If your body is low in magnesium , no matter how much vitamin D you consume, it will remain in its inactive form and will not do its job. So, include pumpkin seeds, spinach, almonds, and dark chocolate in your diet, or ask your doctor about magnesium supplements.

Gut health problems

Vitamin D is absorbed in your small intestine. If you suffer from digestive problems such as celiac disease, Crohn's disease, or IBS, your intestines may fail to transport the supplement to the bloodstream. Additionally, liver or gallbladder problems can also impair vitamin D absorption.

obesity

Obesity: Vitamin D gets trapped in fat cells. If you are overweight, vitamin D gets stored in body fat instead of reaching the bloodstream. Normal supplements may not work.

Wrong dosage or wrong form

Many people take lower doses than necessary, which may not be enough to address a serious deficiency. Furthermore, there are two main forms of vitamin D: D2 (Ergocalciferol) and D3 (Cholecalciferol). Research suggests that D3 is more effective than D2 in raising levels in the body.
