In temples, from the morning Mangala Aarti of God to the Vishram Aarti at night, Aarti is performed. Aarti is also performed in homes after every worship. But, what is the need for it? Why is Aarti performed? What will happen if Aarti is not performed?
If these questions are arising in your mind too, then today we are going to answer them. No religious ritual is considered complete without Aarti. Aarti means completeness.
This word is derived from the Sanskrit word Aaratrika, which means removal of darkness. When the darkness is removed by the flame of Aarti, one gets the darshan of God. At the same time, its flame also removes the darkness of your mind.
The importance is mentioned in the Puranas
When the pujan is completed, before its completion, Aarti (Benefits of Aarti) is performed, in which the lamp is rotated in front of God while praying to him. It is said in Vishnudharmottar Purana that the one who even watches the Dhoop-Aarti, liberates many of his generations.
Similarly, the importance of Aarti has been mentioned in Uttar Skanda Purana. According to this, if a person does not know any mantra, method of worship and he just does Aarti, then God accepts his worship completely.
how to do aarti
A lamp of camphor, ghee or oil is lit on a plate and rotated in front of the idol or picture of the deity. The flame of the lamp is first rotated four times at the feet of the deity, then twice near the navel and once in the face. After this, the lamp is rotated seven times from the feet to the face.
When the Aarti is being rotated amidst the sound of conch, bell and gong, first of all the feet of the Lord are visible in its light. Then his navel is visible and finally his face is visible. After this, the entire view from the feet to the face of the Lord is visible.
This Aarti is performed after the Puja Vidhi, which connects your mind and heart with God through its flame. This flame brings positive thoughts in you and completes all the mistakes that have been made during the Puja. If Aarti is not performed, the Puja or Vidhi is not considered complete.
How should Aarti be taken?
The meaning of doing Aarti is that now the worship is over and we are going to pray to God for well being. After this, take the flame of the lamp with both hands and rotate it around the head and take Aarti for the second time and put it on the forehead. This flame ends your misfortunes and calms the mind.
