Bathing in holy rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna, donating, and offering prayers to the Sun God on this full moon day hold special significance. It is believed that bathing in holy rivers or pilgrimage sites on Paush Purnima purifies both the body and mind and infuses a renewed energy within.

Paush Purnima is also known as Shakambhari Purnima. On this day, worship of Goddess Shakambhari, a form of Goddess Bhavani, is significant. Shakambhari is the goddess of nature.

Paush Purnima 2026 auspicious time

Paush Purnima will begin at 6:53 pm on January 2, 2026, and end at 3:32 pm on January 3. Brahma Muhurta is considered the best time for bathing and donating on this day.

  • Brahma Muhurta – 05:25 am – 06:20 am
  • Satyanarayan Puja Muhurta – 5:34 pm to 6:02 pm
  • Moonrise – 5:28 pm

This is how Lakshmi ji will be pleased on Paush Purnima

On Paush Purnima, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, and the Moon God are worshipped. Those with a weak Moon in their horoscope should donate white items and recite mantras dedicated to the Moon God. On Paush Purnima, be sure to light a lamp at the main entrance, in the north-east corner, and under a Peepal tree. It is said that doing so brings the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi to the home.

Method of worship

  • On the day of Paush Purnima, wake up before sunrise in the morning and take a bath in the water of the holy river.
  • After this, offer water to the Sun God and chant the mantra Om Ghriniah Suryay Namah.
  • Offer Panchamrit, banana and Panjiri to Lord Vishnu.
  • After this, call a Pandit and get the Satyanarayan Katha narrated and also invite the people nearby.
  • After the puja, distribute Prasad among family and others and give donations.
