News Topical, Digital Desk : Starbucks has appointed Indian-born technology executive Anand Varadarajan, who spent more than two decades at Amazon, as its new executive vice president and chief technology officer (CTO).
According to Starbucks, Varadarajan will join the company's executive leadership team on January 19th of next year and will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Brian Niccol. She replaces Deb Hall LeFevre, who retired in September.
Varadarajan has worked at Amazon for 19 years.
According to reports, Anand Varadarajan spent nearly 19 years at Amazon building a large-scale, consumer-focused technology platform. Most recently, he oversaw technology and supply chain for its worldwide grocery stores business. Prior to Amazon, he worked as a software engineer at Oracle and at several startups.
Varadarajan brings deep experience in developing secure, reliable systems and scaling technology to support operational excellence while keeping customers at the center, a Starbucks statement said.
Studied from IIT
He studied at the Indian Institute of Technology. Varadarajan also holds a master's degree in civil engineering from Purdue University and a master's degree in computer science from the University of Washington.
Starbucks said Varadarajan's appointment is expected to accelerate its technology initiatives and strengthen digital capabilities across its global business.
