News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump delivered his longest State of the Union speech to date, pressing Congress to pass "Dalima's Law ," a proposed measure that would prevent states from issuing driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants.
Trump said the law is named after Delilah Coleman , a first-grade student who was seriously injured in a car accident caused by an undocumented Indian-American truck driver who allegedly failed to stop his speeding vehicle.
What did Trump say ?
Donald Trump said, "Many, if not most, illegal aliens do not speak English and cannot read even the most basic road signs... So tonight, I am appealing to Congress to pass 'Delilah's Law ,' which would prevent any state from issuing commercial driver's licenses to illegal aliens."
The US President also called for major criminal justice reforms to ensure that repeat offenders of violent and dangerous crimes are behind bars and, most importantly, stay there.
What is the matter?
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Indian-origin Pratap Singh was driving an 18-wheeler truck when he failed to stop in a construction zone, resulting in a fatal accident that seriously injured five-year-old Delilah.
He is alleged to have entered the United States illegally through the southern border in October 2022 and was later released under the Biden administration. He was re-arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in August 2025 and is currently facing deportation proceedings.
Delilah underwent long treatment
Meanwhile, Delilah spent three weeks in a coma and six months in hospital. The Department of Homeland Security, citing her family, said she was without half her skull for four months.
According to the New York Post, the accident left Delilah unable to eat by mouth, shattered her thigh bone, and left her with multiple skull fractures.
She will now need lifelong therapy to survive. Delilah, now 7, attended Trump's State of the Union speech, where he announced the resolution in her honor.
