Vodafone Idea Ltd (Vi) has received its biggest relief in 2026 on the AGR front . The government has frozen its old AGR dues and allowed it to repay them in small installments over a long period. This is considered crucial to saving the company from insolvency and developing a revival plan. The government's Department of Telecommunications has formed a committee to reassess AGR, whose decision will be considered final. According to reports, the reassessed amount may be lower than the current frozen figure. AGR dues from FY 2006-07 to FY 2018-19 have been frozen at approximately ₹87,695 crore until December 31, 2025. Now, Vi will have to pay a maximum of approximately ₹124 crore annually between 2026 and 2031. After this, Rs 100 crore per year will be paid from 2032 to 2035 and the remaining amount will be paid in equal installments between 2036 and 2041. However, the AGR dues related to FY 2018-19 are not included in the freeze, as they already fall under a separate regime under the Supreme Court of India's order. According to Vi CEO Akshaya Moondra, with the AGR overhang reduced, the company will now be able to focus on capex and network improvements. This is certainly a relief for investors, but in the long term, large liabilities of AGR and spectrum will remain.
