News Topical, Digital Desk : The issue of mixing ethanol in petrol has now reached the court. The Supreme Court will hear on Monday a petition challenging the implementation of 20 percent ethanol-blended petrol (EBP-20) across the country.

Vehicle owners are being forced

The petition alleges that lakhs of vehicle owners are being forced to use fuel that is not suitable for their vehicles. This PIL is listed for hearing on September 1 before a bench headed by Chief Justice BR Gavai.

Demand to provide ethanol free petrol

The petition filed by advocate Akshay Malhotra has requested to direct the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to make ethanol-free petrol available at all petrol pumps.

There is also a demand for putting a label showing the amount of ethanol

It has also been requested that all petrol pumps and distribution units should mandatorily put up labels showing the amount of ethanol so that consumers can clearly know. Also, it should be ensured that consumers are informed about the ethanol compatibility of their vehicles while refueling.
