News Topical, Digital Desk : Vehicles that fell into the river after the Gambhira bridge on the Mahisagar river collapsed in Vadodara district of Gujarat are being pulled out. This accident happened on July 9. 20 people have lost their lives in the accident caused by the bridge collapse. On Wednesday (July 9) morning, many vehicles fell into the Mahisagar river after a part of the four-decade-old bridge near Gambhira village near Padra town collapsed.

This bridge connects Anand and Vadodara districts. Meanwhile, citing the preliminary investigation report, a state minister had said that the reason for the collapse of the bridge was cracks in the base and breakage of joints. Vadodara District Magistrate confirmed that 20 people were killed in the bridge accident. 

20 people lost their lives due to Gambhira bridge collapse

Vadodara DM Anil Dhamelia gave information on July 11, "On the first day we recovered 12 bodies and on the second day six bodies were recovered. Unfortunately, one victim died in the hospital while another body was recovered." One of the five injured undergoing treatment at SSG Hospital, 45-year-old Narendra Singh Parmar, a resident of Dahevan, died on Friday. 

CM suspended 4 engineers

Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel on Thursday (July 10) suspended four engineers of the state's Road and Building Department in connection with the bridge collapse. State minister Rishikesh Patel visited the spot and told the media that the suspension action was taken on the basis of a preliminary report submitted by a committee constituted by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. He also said that a high-level inquiry committee of the state's Road and Building Department will submit a detailed report in 30 days. 

After the visit, Minister Rishikesh Patel said that out of the 7,000 bridges surveyed in the state, the government has identified those bridges that need repair or construction of new bridges. Patel later met the injured at SSG Hospital and enquired about their health.
