News Topical, Digital Desk : Uttarakhand is celebrating to welcome the New Year. Tourists have already arrived in large numbers in the hill districts and tourist destinations, but this time they are eagerly awaiting the sights for which the land of the gods is especially renowned. The mountain peaks, typically covered in snow by the end of December, now appear barren. Tourists at destinations like Auli, Mussoorie, Dhanaulti, and Munsyari are eagerly anticipating snowfall.
According to the Meteorological Center, Dehradun, the state has recorded approximately 24 percent less rainfall than normal from October to December 30th. This is why the state's mountainous regions have not yet experienced snowfall. Snowfall in Uttarakhand is a major tourist attraction during the New Year, but this year the weather has been disappointing.
Chances of rain in the next few days
However, a change in weather is expected on New Year's Day. According to Rohit Thapliyal, a scientist at the Meteorological Center, the activation of a Western Disturbance could bring light to very light rain to the mountainous regions of the state. Snowfall is also possible in areas above 3,000 meters.
Rain alert issued in these districts
According to the Meteorological Department, the western disturbance will be mild on January 2nd, but light rain is possible in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts. Snowfall is expected in the higher elevations of these districts. Dense fog is also expected in isolated pockets in the plains of Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, and Pauri.
This change in weather will also affect temperatures. Maximum temperatures are expected to drop by two to four degrees Celsius in most areas of the state over the next two days, further intensifying the cold.
The Meteorological Department has advised tourists and locals to exercise caution and monitor weather updates. If snowfall occurs on New Year's Day, it will be a welcome relief for Uttarakhand tourism.
